Across our Watoto family, we’re seeing the positive impact sports has on our children. Our Watoto Sports Academy takes a child’s natural love of sports and teaches them to play at their best with support and guidance from coaches.
The team of coaches, like Coach Milton, are not only mentors, but are truly father-figures to our children. Each of them works hard to build a culture of respect, and because of this our sports teams are recognised across Uganda and beyond for their good attitude and the way they serve.
We are so excited to share a testimony of an athlete from the Watoto Sports Academy. Due to a physical disability and numerous surgeries, James thought that he would not walk again. But, he overcame these challenges from his childhood to fulfil his dream of wearing the national colours!
His love for basketball and the support from his coaches gave him the courage to play in the Conference Championship in the 2018 Junior NBA finals, the Schools’ National Championships, and the Uganda Basketball National League. All this brought him closer to his dream of playing for the national team.
2022 saw James being called on the Junior National Team to represent Uganda in the Afro Basketball Zone 5 qualifiers, where he captained the team – leading by example both in skill and character. We are so proud and excited to witness what God is doing in James’ life as he reaches his full potential. Not only is he the captain of the Watoto elite team, he’s also representing Uganda at the senior level!
